Playing as an adult with all the beautiful things and opening up my life in a way I never imagined

As a kid I dreamt of having the best and most brilliant art and craft box imaginable. And I kept dreaming of it until in my mid-forties, when I let go of the obstacles, and bought all the colours, the textures: paints and pencils, cloth, wool, card, ephemera, brushes, needles, hooks, feathers, twine. Mine to play in. Mine to escape to. Pulling me from the thinking brain of corporate life and into the waters of creative feeling.

I walked away from art in my early teens when creating art at school came with the proviso that you had to learn about (and remember) all the history. I jumped that train. But I’ve wandered back on my own terms. I’m peddling as fast as I can. And it’s lovely.’

Libby is both an artist and writer.  She uses her creativity and words as channels by which we can explore our own spirit and our relationship with the world.

Her long career in corporate communications and her knowledge of how information is shared and deciphered informs her creative inspiration and journey. She started her company at the ripe age of 23 and has worked in Australia and internationally with government, business and the not-for-profit sector while also lecturing in specialist courses and writing on a variety of subjects.

Her choice of subjects taps into childhood memory and imagination, and subtly connects back into adulthood to make us reexamine our emotions and connection to life. This asks the viewer to explore and navigate their internal worlds and find the things they have forgotten but which they love.

Libby works primarily in watercolour but is also known to dabble in acrylic, ink, pastel, printmaking, soft sculpture, paper art, mixed media and photography. She has also taught herself to knit, sew and crochet.

She is a solitary practicing Hedgewitch, most happy when by or in the ocean, the garden or at the cauldron in the kitchen.
